Just things that bug me
I have owned my Porsche 992 Carrera now for just over 6 months and driving it everyday as my only car has given me time to find things I would like Porsche to change.
When saying that I am not bashing the car at all as the things I would like to change are really small issues but you face them every time you drive the car.
These points are all my opinion of course and may not be an issue to others who own the car.
I list them as follows in order of importance:
1. The Fuel gauge / lack of it being available for the custom info dial.
As they have switched over to the new 2 digital panels on the dash display they tried to keep the 911 style of 5 main dials. As they did this they made the 2 outer dials so small they are hidden from direct view behind the wheel making them very difficult to glance down and see. The fuel is one of these dials and is feature on the right. They allow the bar on the general view on the larger inner dial but have not included it for the custom view you can use as an alternative. It is a pain and it should in my opinion be added back to the custom menu as an option.
2. The Time dial / clock and time in general
The clock dial is the other small dial hidden this time on the left behind the view of the wheel. In all honesty this dial is pointless. The time is featured in more than one place on the PCM system and also can be added to the custom dial. You can change it to a compass or a full clock face but you can't see it easily so it may as well be something else. The fact you can add the time to the custom dial but not the fuel is fairly annoying and again could be fixed with software.
3. The start / stop function being on the PCM and not a fixed dash button
When you drive the car every day in slow commuter traffic with many traffic light stops and sometimes stand still traffic, forgetting to turn off the start/stop can be extremely frustrating when it first turns off. The button used to be down on the gear selector area and was easily turned on and off. Now you must wait for the PCM to start up and be ready before you can touch the button. Since first making the YouTube content you may have watched above I have been told you can set this to on or off via the personal ID setting. This means you can as the main driver set this off when this ID is being used. All other cars still have this as button usually near the start button and I think this should still be there.
4. The favourite button (one on the wheel, sometimes extra on the dash in some models)
There is a favourite shortcut button on the steering wheel. It is a great idea, however, there is only a small list of items you can set it to do and none of them are really choices you may want to set this button to do. The idea of short cuts is to make something that is a long process very quick that you may want fairly often. I don't think this button which is controlled by a mostly computer set system is really as functional as it could be.
5. The Seat pull tab to access the rear seats
It is a very small issue but it is something they have changed to make it look nice but seems like a backwards step over the old plastic handle. The handle just pulled up to release the seat catch so you could move the seat. They have replaced it with a leather pull tab which needs to be pulled the right way to make sure it releases. On this I am only voicing my opinion, I don't think I have seen anyone else bring this up. This is the reason I place it at number 5 as it's not a huge issue, but something I have found difficult at times.
Outside of these points I don't really have much else to be critical about when daily driving the 992. There are a couple of exterior features that are a little quirky but I will cover them in a future blog post.
If you would like to view my video covering the points above showing exactly how they feature on the car you can view that here https://youtu.be/AzJcBcdKBCs
