Taking a look at my Porsche 992 PDK coasting mode and how to manually activate it while driving.
How to activate the coasting mode feature on a Porsche PDK transmission system and help increase fuel efficiency improving MPG when driving.
When you are driving a Porsche with a PDK transmission you can activate the coasting mode feature once you have reached the highest gear for your current speed. It works best when travelling on a slight downward gradient and drops your revs by half to around 600rpm.
You need to remove your foot from either the accelerator of the brake in your Porsche before you upshift at the highest gear to enter coasting mode.
I have found coasting mode works best when you are on long runs casually driving and allowing the normal PDK mode to quickly get you into the highest gear. You can then enter coasting mode if it is safe and you are on a shallow downward dropping road. You can then maintain speed without rapidly speeding up or slowing down.
Remember coasting in any vehicle removes engine breaking and without use of the brakes will increase speed quickly if you are travelling downhill. If you brake in your Porsche while coasting it will engage the clutch again and put you back into gear. So you can quickly regain control of your speed by braking or accelerating.
